Recent Graduate Finds National Success in Website

RADFORD – In May 2008, Lee Bradshaw, a recent Radford University marketing graduate from Roanoke, and Virginia Tech student Wade Hammes launched one of the first area websites dedicated to fitness information. Today, that website known as FITnoke.com has been dubbed “the Internet’s first big step in the cohesion of fitness and social networking” by Yahoo! News.

Not even one year old, FITnoke.com, a free subscription site designed to help fitness seekers learn, share and meet others with similar goals, has spread from a regionally based online tool to a nationwide resource. According to Bradshaw, the site has reached five million hits since its inception in May 2008 and now averages more than one million hits per month.

Lee BradshawBradshaw said his goal was to “create the ‘Facebook of fitness.’ The knowledge Wade and I share about fitness has really made the website grow. We created a fitness hub in this area within two months of the launch, and now we are used nationally and our hubs are growing.”

FITnoke.com features social networking capabilities, exclusive daily articles, discussion forums, blogs and daily workouts. The site also includes group searches for locals who enjoy specific activities, including biking, running and swimming. In the next month, Bradshaw and Hammes plan to release FITnoke 2.0, a faster version of the site they say users will be able to navigate more efficiently. The new version will also include a “My FITpoints” section that will allow users to purchase fitness merchandise with FITpoints earned by using the site.

Bradshaw attributes his success to the education he received during his time at RU. “The university has given me the education and resources needed to provide my business with what it needs,” he said. “My business professors have helped me truly grasp the idea of business and entrepreneurship. RU is a dynamic learning environment, and the student relationships formed here have helped myself and many of my friends grow to become tomorrow's next powerful workforce. There is no other school I would have gone to now that I have thrived so well at RU.”
