Award-Winning Play Presented at RU As Part of Women's History Month
RADFORD The RU Women’s Studies Club, Department of Theatre and Cinema, Department of International Studies, and Club Program Committee will present Eve Ensler’s award-winning play “The Vagina Monologues” in Porterfield Hall’s Studio Theatre. Performance dates are Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m. The playwright has interviewed women from all walks of life and woven a tapestry that is sometimes poignant, irreverent, hilarious, or heartbreaking, but always honest. Directed by Lucinda McDermott Piro for RU’s Women’s History Month, the play is performed around the world every spring as part of V-Day, a global campaign to stop violence against women and girls. This year, V-Day raises special awareness of women and girl survivors of systematic violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This event is recommended for mature audiences. Visit www.vday.org to learn more about the organization’s mission and work. An outdoor candlelight vigil will follow the Friday and Saturday performances. Tickets are free and available for distribution on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Women’s Studies Club table in Hurlburt Hall beginning Monday, March 16. For more information, or for audience members needing special assistance, please contact Jennifer Juul at jjuul@radford.edu or via voicemail at 831-5207. |
