RU's 32nd Annual Highland Summer Conference Begins June 8

RADFORD – The 32nd Highland Summer Conference, a credit-based creative writing workshop at Radford University, is June 8 - 19 and registration remains open until spaces are filled. The workshop will be taught by Appalachian authors Crystal Wilkinson and Cathy Smith Bowers, with public readings by the instructors and guest speakers.

Evening readings are 7:30 p.m. in McConnell Library. The dates and speakers are as follows:

 •June 9 –Jim Minick, RU English instructor, poet and prose essayist;

 •June 11 – HSC first week instructor Crystal Wilkinson, author, writer-in-residence at Morehead State University, associate faculty at Spalding University;

 •June 16 – Sharyn McCrumb, author, novelist, recipient of the Wilma Dykeman Award for Literature;

 •June 18 – HSC second week instructor Cathy Smith Bowers, author, instructor in MFA program at Queens University in Charlotte.

The longest-known credit-based creative writing workshop in the southeast, the HSC celebrates and polishes the creative and expository writing skills of people of all ages and careers, focusing primarily on the culture of the Appalachian region.
