Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra
Headlines RU's February Arts Events

RADFORD – Radford University’s highlight event for the February arts season will be a performance by the Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m., in Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall. The concert is part of RU’s University Performance Series.

The all Tchaikovsky concert features “Hamlet’s Fantasy Overture after Shakespeare in F minor, Op 6;” “Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35,” with Nadezda Tokareva as violinist; and “Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 29: Pathetique.”

Admission is free with RU I.D., $15 general public, and $7.50 children. Tickets go on sale two weeks prior to the event at the Hurlburt Hall Information Desk. To learn more, call (540) 831-5420.

Cinema
The season's second Cinema Symposium presents the film “International House,” Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m., in Pridemore Playhouse,  Porterfield Hall. Admission is free but seating is limited. Tickets may be picked up 12 to 6 p.m. daily beginning Monday, Feb. 1 at the Porterfield box office. Music
A faculty recital by flutist Carla Copeland Burns is Monday, Feb. 15.

Christopher White’s faculty recital is Tuesday, Feb. 16. The recital will consist of original works composed by White in both the jazz and classical idioms.

The RU Jazz Ensemble and Jazztet performs Tuesday, Feb. 23.

Each event is at 8 p.m. in the Performance Hall of the Covington Center. Admission is free. To learn more, call the Department of Music at (540) 831-5177.

Art
Opening Jan. 28 and continuing through Feb. 19 in Gallery 205 in Powell Hall is the Student Ceramic Show featuring works by students in Professor Drew Dodson’s class. Exhibition hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - noon and 1 - 5 p.m.

An exhibition of the Graduate Student Art Association follows the ceramics show in Gallery 205. The exhibition is Feb. 25 through April 2. Graduate students will mount their own installations in various media.

The exhibition “Wish You Were Here! F/T: Fiber Transformed,” an unusual show featuring weaving and fiber artworks made in response to personal travel memories, opens Jan. 21 and continues through Feb. 12 in the Gallery at the Covington Center. Exhibition hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. A reception will be held on opening night from 5 to 7 p.m.

The annual RU Juried Student Show takes place in the Covington Center Feb. 18 through March 5. Awards will be announced at the opening night reception which will be 5 to 7 p.m.
