RU Foundation President David W. DeHart Passes Away
David W. DeHart, a banking executive who served as President of the Radford University Foundation, Inc., passed away on Monday, Jan. 4.
DeHart, who most recently served as Executive Vice President, Regional Corporate Banking with StellarOne Corporation, had provided volunteer leadership for Radford University and for several foundations associated with the university.
“The entire Radford University community has lost a great friend,” said Radford University President Penelope W. Kyle. “Dave DeHart loved this university and showed it continually by his commitment President of the RU Foundation, member of the President’s Advisory Council, President of the RU Athletics Foundation these are just a few of the ways Dave showed his dedication to RU. His insight, leadership, loyalty, friendship and humor will be sorely missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Marian, and family at this very sad time.”
DeHart was appointed to serve on the Radford University Foundation in 2001 and became president in 2003. As president of the Radford University Foundation, Inc., DeHart provided leadership for a foundation that presides over the management, investment and distribution of more than $50 million in assets.
DeHart also served as a member of the Radford University Athletic Foundation Board of Directors and was named president last year, a member of the Radford University President’s Advisory Council (formerly known as the Business Industry Council) since 2000, and a member of the Radford University Real Estate Foundation Board of Directors since 2004. He was also a member of the RU College of Business and Economics’ Advisory Council.
From 2006-2007, he served as a member of the Commission for the Future of Radford University and from 2000 - 2005 he served on the university’s “Building a Legacy” Campaign Committee.
DeHart, a 1979 graduate of Virginia Tech, was former President and CEO of First National Bank in Christiansburg and President of Crestar Bank in the New River Valley.
He served as chairman of the New River Valley Economic Development Alliance Board of Directors and as chairman of the Radford City Industrial Development Authority.
