RU Hosts Protocol Dinner Feb. 10

RADFORD – In today’s tough economic times, interviews -- as well as jobs -- have become more competitive than ever for college graduates. Having an edge to succeed is essential, and Radford University students have the opportunity to gain that lead with the RU 2009 Protocol Dinner on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Kathleen Harshberger, an etiquette consultant and founder of the KHH School of Protocol in Radford, will lead the dinner, which will provide students the opportunity to enhance their business etiquette skills and gain the confidence and authority necessary to become a successful and knowledgeable person. Topics covered at the event will include business entertaining, dressing for the occasion, and body language. Check-in and table assignments begin at 5:30 p.m. in Muse Banquet Hall, and the dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all RU students, as Chartwells Dining Services will underwrite the cost of the meal.

“RU students understand that, this year more than ever, they will need to be completely prepared for business interviewing situations in this flat recruiting season,” said Kathy Jordan, director of RU’s Experiential Learning & Career Services. “RU has made this opportunity available to its students for the past 15 years, and it is a hallmark of RU’s active learning experiences.”

Harshberger, a graduate of RU, is trained by the Protocol School of Washington, one of the most prestigious etiquette schools in the nation. She has a passion for sharing her immense knowledge of etiquette to students to better prepare them for interviews, formal dining and any other major event that needs an extra touch.

Tickets for the Protocol Dinner are required and are available at the Office of Experiential Learning & Career Services, 279 Walker Hall, beginning on Monday, Jan. 26. The deadline for obtaining tickets is Thursday, Feb. 5.
