Winter Storm Postpones RU's Centennial Homecoming Weekend

RADFORD -- Based upon the impending winter storm that threatens public safety in the Commonwealth of Virginia and Governor Bob McDonnell’s declared state of emergency, Radford University has postponed its “Centennial Homecoming” weekend from Feb. 5-7 until Feb. 19-20.

University alumni who have registered for this weekend’s activities will be automatically registered for the new “Centennial Homecoming” celebration. Alumni who are unable to attend festivities that weekend are asked to contact the university’s Alumni Relations office at (540) 831-5248.

Area hotels have been notified that the university’s “Centennial Homecoming” is officially postponed and alumni are urged to contact their hotels immediately concerning their reservation.

All events associated with the Homecoming program this weekend are cancelled, including Alumni Teaching Day, the Alumni Basketball games, the Tailgate, the Presidential Brunch, and the Highlander Polar Plunge.

At this point, men’s and women’s basketball games remain scheduled pending consultation with Big South Conference officials.

The University’s Winter Commencement for 2009 graduates scheduled for Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. remains on schedule.  A decision will be made regarding that ceremony by 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Participants are advised to stay tuned to the university’s Web site for additional information on that ceremony.

Information concerning RU’s “Centennial Homecoming” weekend postponement is also available on the university website at www.radford.edu.
