Board of Visitors Meets in Richmond

RADFORD -- The Radford University Board of Visitors met in Richmond on Wednesday, Jan. 30. The meeting was scheduled to be held in the capital so that members of the board could participate in Advocacy Day activities with Radford students, faculty and staff.

The board meeting was highlighted by reports from a number of committees. The Academic Affairs Committee, which met in Roanoke on Monday, Jan. 28, provided the full board with a report on the progress being made in the university’s initiative to reform general education.

“The Board of Visitors was impressed with the amount of work that had been done on general education reform since its November meeting,” said Provost Wil Stanton. “The Board was equally impressed with the conceptual framework that was put together by the General Education Curriculum Advisory Committee and which is being discussed by the Faculty Senate.”

The Student Affairs Committee reported on the presentations that were made at its last meeting. There was no report from the Business Affairs Committee, which has not met since the last Board meeting in November.

The Board of Visitors elected Juliann Abercrombie, a junior business management major, to represent RU’s student body on the Board. Abercrombie, who serves as vice president of the Student Government Association’s Student Finance Committee, hails from Ashburn, Va.

The next meeting of the Radford University Board of Visitors is scheduled for Thursday, April 24.
