Registration Underway for RU's Highland Summer Conference
RADFORD -- Registration is now open for Radford University’s Highland Summer Conference (HSC). The conference, now in its 33rd year, will be June 7-18. The longest-known credit-based creative writing workshop in the southeast, the HSC celebrates and polishes the creative and expository writing skills of people of all ages and careers, focusing primarily on the culture of the Appalachian region. Fiction writer Pamela Duncan will teach the first week of classes. Children’s author and poet George Ella Lyon will teach the second week. Public readings by the instructors and guest speakers will be held each Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. in McConnell Library. The public is invited to readings and admission is free. Duncan will present a reading on Tuesday, June 8 and fiction writer and journalist Dot Jackson will read on Thursday, June 10. Lyon’s reading will be Tuesday, June 15, and RU alumnus and poet Charles Swanson will read Thursday, June 17.
