RU Offers Summer Study Abroad Program in Kenya

RADFORD -- As a university on the move, Radford University is dedicated to developing a strong relationship with international communities by expanding study abroad opportunities. RU is offering one such new study abroad program next summer to Kenya, where students will study the largest economy in East Africa.

Kiert Toh, a special purpose faculty member in RU’s College of Business and Economics, will lead the program, “Kenya and the African Renaissance in the New Global Economy,” during summer 2010 at Kenyatta University.

The program is designed to provide students with a deeper knowledge of the new global economy of the sub-Saharan Africa and an in-country learning experience. Students will learn about the governmental policies and strategies used by businesses, nonprofit institutions and the civil society in Kenya. There will also be opportunities for students to meet international business and development professionals, diplomats and other U.S. Foreign Service members.

Toh joined the RU faculty in 2007 with 25 years of experience in international development under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). He held several leadership and senior executive management positions, including head mission director of the USAID Mission in Kenya and Malawi. He has worked in Niger, Malawi, Liberia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Jamaica, Tanzania, the Philippines, Pakistan and Thailand. Toh has also provided consultation for USAID and the World Bank and is a senior associate with the Duke University Center for International Development.
