RU Police Department Earns Prestigious Reaccreditation
RADFORD -- The Radford University Police Department (RUPD) will receive official documentation of its successful reaccreditation assessment on Wednesday, April 22, at 11 a.m. in the RU Board of Visitors conference room in a presentation ceremony that will feature President Penelope W. Kyle and RUPD Chief Colleen T. Roberts. The RUPD was the first university police department in Virginia to achieve VLEPSC accreditation in October 2000 and earned its first reaccreditation in November 2004. "The reaccreditation recognition reflects the professionalism and dedication of the department that serves the Radford University community,” said Chief Colleen Roberts. The ceremony will mark the second consecutive successful reaccreditation of the RUPD by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC.) The department was scrutinized on 180 professional standards in the four general areas of administration, operations, personnel and training. The review process included a VLEPSC inspection of the department’s facilities, vehicles and equipment, interviews with department personnel and a review of the department’s Standard Operating Procedures manual, which was followed by a reaccreditation review before the VLEPSC executive board, comprised of 10 sitting sheriffs and police chiefs. |
