RADFORD, VA - - A few cloud and light raindrops did not dampen Highlander spirit on Sunday, August 26, as Radford University held its second annual Team Radford Day. Aimed at getting student-athletes from different teams to unite as one, the raindrops held off to unite all 280 RU student-athletes in a day filled with camaraderie, fun and game and food.

Kicking off at 3:30 p.m., the day began with guest speaker Mike Stevens, Sports Director of WDBJ, Channel 7 in Roanoke. After Stevens spoke with the athletes about building relationships, student-athletes were divided into teams and headed outside to compete in field events.

Directed by faculty and staff as team leaders, student-athletes teamed up to compete in events of the wheelbarrow race, egg relay, crazy relay, three-legged race, beachball relay, tug of war and pie eating contest. After champions were crowned in each event the athletes were treated to a barbecue.

"We are very happy about the response of the student-athletes to this event" said Radford University Compliance Coordinator Meghan Eckert. "Our whole goal here is to bring the student-athletes together to let them know that even though they compete in different sports, they are indeed one team, Team Radford."
