Radford Athletics Renames Media Relations Department, Promotes Dickerson RADFORD, Va.--Radford University Director of Athletics Greig Denny has announced that the university will change the name of its Sports Information Department to Athletic Media Relations. Along with that change, the University will promote Drew Dickerson, current Director of Sports Information, to Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations. The change in name results from a growing trend nationally to clarify what sports information and media relations offices are responsible for. Radford’s media relations handles a wide variety of tasks, ranging from statistics compilation to record keeping, but a majority of what is done is for use by media. The office also serves as the first point of contact in the athletic department for local, regional and national media. “Athletic Media Relations more accurately describes what Drew and his staff handle on a day-to-day basis,” Denny said. Dickerson, a 1995 Radford graduate, re-joined the athletic department last November after serving five years in the same capacity at the Big South Conference. Since returning to RU, he has overseen several improvements, including expanded athletic department publications, improved radio coverage of RU events and improvements to the Athletics website. “Drew has done a tremendous job since coming back to the RU Athletics family,” said Denny. “This promotion is well deserved.” Radford University sponsors 19 intercollegiate sports for nearly 300 student-athletes. It competes as a member of the Big South Conference at the NCAA Division I level in all sports. |
