Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium Dedication Ceremonies Set

Dedication ceremonies for Radford University’s new outdoor track and soccer complex, the Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium, have been scheduled for this spring. The ceremonies were originally set for April 17 but have been postponed from that date. The new date will be announced as soon as possible.

Pat Cupp “Having a track and soccer complex of this magnitude will be a tremendous asset to the growth of our track and field and soccer programs,” said athletic director Greig Denny. “With great coaches and a great facility in place, RU is eager to make its move to the next level.”

The new stadium is named for Patrick D. Cupp (right), a prominent New River Valley businessman and civic leader who, with his wife Sandy, made major contributions to the RU Athletic Association and the University for many years.

Cupp Stadium, a multi-phase, $5.5-million dollar project, will feature an eight-lane track and soccer playing surface, a 5,000-seat grandstand, locker room facilities, a sports medicine facility, press box and office space for the soccer and track coaching staffs. The track and soccer complex is the highlight of a series of capital improvements to the Dedmon Center athletic facilities. The RU volleyball team played on a new SportCourt surface this season and the Dedmon Center tennis, baseball and softball fields have been upgraded. The Dedmon Center basketball arena featured a new floor design and scoreboard in 2002.
