From the Director of Athletics

September, 2001

Dear Prospective Student-Athlete:

Thank you for your interest in Radford University and the Radford University Intercollegiate Athletic Program. Radford currently offers 19 (8 men’s, 11 women’s) NCAA Division I teams. The number of openings for new players on these teams varies from year to year, and while the majority of the student-athletes on our teams have been specifically recruited to compete for Radford, we do offer the opportunity for walk-on tryouts. These tryouts typically take place during the first two or three weeks of the Fall semester. If you are interested in trying out for the team, dates and times of tryouts will be available upon your arrival to campus.

A questionnaire is available online which you may download and complete. Upon completion, please return it to the Intercollegiate Athletic Department using the address on the questionnaire. We will keep your information on file and if any additional information is needed or requested you will be contacted by e-mail, phone or written correspondence.

Also, please be aware that initial athletic eligibility for all Division I and Division II student-athletes must be certified through the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse. Your high school guidance office should have registration forms for the Clearinghouse. If not, you can contact the NCAA hotline at 1-800-638-3731 or go to www.ncaa.org on the web.

Again, thank you for your interest in RU and the Highlander athletic program.

Sincerely,

Greig Denny
Director of Athletics
