DEFINITIONS YOU SHOULD KNOW

Who is a “Representative of Radford University Athletics Interest” (a.k.a. booster)?
A “representative of an institution’s athletics interest” (commonly referred to as a booster) is defined by the NCAA as anyone who:

- is now, or previously been, a member of any organization promoting the institutions’ intercollegiate athletics program
- has made a financial contribution to the athletics program or an athletics booster organization

Who is a “Prospective Student-Athlete”?
A “prospective student-athlete” (commonly referred to as a prospect) is defined by the NCAA as any individual who has begun classes for the ninth grade. A prospect remains a prospect until such time that he/she reports for practice or attends class as a full-time student (fall or spring semester) at Radford University.

What constitutes “Recruitment”?
“Recruiting” is defined by the NCAA as any solicitation of a prospect, a member of a prospects’ family, or a prospect’s legal guardian for the purpose of securing the prospect’s enrollment and ultimate participation in the RU athletics program.

What constitutes a “Contact”?
A “contact” is any face-to-face encounter between a prospect, a member of a prospect’s family, or a prospect’s legal guardian during which any conversation occurs in excess of a greeting. Even an exchange of greetings is considered a contact if it takes place at the prospect’s school, at the site of the prospect’s competition or practice, or is pre-arranged.
