Highs Record Seven Top-Ten Finishes and Set a Record at the Niswonger Invitational JOHNSON CITY, TENN. - The Highlanders complete day two at the Niswonger Invitational on Saturday night in the Memorial Center at East Tennessee State University. The Highs recorded seven top-ten finishes and was able to post a new school record in the women’s weight throw. Sophomore Tiffany Evans (Dumfries, Va.) posted two second place finishes over the weekend. In the weight throw she set a new school record with a distance of 61’06.75” She also placed second in the shot put with a mark of 46’06.00”. In the sprints for the women, senior Maurika Quarles (Manassas, Va.) clocked a 58.90 in the 400 meter dash to finish 17th. For the men, sophomore Brian Richotte (Berkley, Mich.) finished second in the weight throw recording a mark of 61’04.25, while teammate junior Jeremiah Spence (Riner, Va.) took fourth place in the event with a distance of 57’07.75” Richotte, also grabbed a 10th place spot in the shot put with a distance of 46’01.25. Sophomore James Nixon (Prince George, Va.) finished eighth in the shot recording a distance of 48’07.25. Freshman Abe Gogel (Virginia Beach, Va.) tied for 12th in the Pole Vault with a height of 14’01.25”, while freshman Dan Oseth (Sterling, Va.) tied for eighth in the High Jump with a mark of 6’06.00” In the 4x400 men’s relay event the Highlanders finished 12th crossing the finish line in 3:21.35. The Highlanders will be back in action this weekend Jan. 28-29 in Chapel Hill, N.C. to compete in the North Carolina Invitational. |
