Quarles and Evans Garner Victories Conway, S.C. - The Highlanders broke two school records and had a strong performance at the Coastal Carolina Invitational this past weekend. Sophomore thrower Jeremiah Spence and RU's 4x100 meter relay team set new school records. Spence placed third and threw a distance of 191-06 in the hammer, while the 4x100 relay team placed second clocking a time of 41.45. In a three way tie for ninth Abe Gogel tied the school record in the pole vault with a height of 13-05.25. RU had other outstanding performances in the running events. Quentin Preston placed third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.85, while Jarrell Warthen placed second in the 400 meter dash (48.67). On the women's side Maurika Quarles and Tiffany Evans had first place finishes for the Highlanders. Quarles clocked a time of 50.28 in the 100 meter hurdles, while Evans tossed the shot a distance of 45-09.75. Quarles also placed third in the 400 meter hurdles.Evans garnered fourth in the discus and fifth in the hammer throw. The 4x400 relay team grabbed first with a time of 3:57.61. The Highlanders will be back in action March 18, at the Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. |
