Evans Qualifies for NCAA Regional Championships Lexington, Va. - Radford men rank first and women third after day one of competition at the 2005 New Balance Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet is being held at The Virginia Military Institute on Alumni Memorial Field. Sophomore Tiffany Evans (Dumfries, Va.) qualified for the 2005 Regional Championships with her distance of 184-08 in the hammer throw. The distance garnered her first place in the event and also shattered a school record set at 165-07. Tricia Benson (Salem, Va.) placed eighth (150-00) in the event. On the men’s side, Brian Richotte (Berkley, Mich.) and Jeremiah Spence (Riner, Va.) place first and second respectively in the hammer throw. Richotte threw a distance of 201-10 and Spence tossed a 186-11. Both athletes have already qualified for the 2005 Regional Championships in the hammer throw. James Nixon finished seventh (144-10) in the event. In the 10,000 meter run Mike Meehan (Orange, Va.) posted a fourth place finish with a time of 32:23.36. Action resumes on Friday April 15 at 11:00 am with the trials and finals of the women’s long jump while the trials and finals of the women’s javelin throw will open the final day of the meet on Saturday April 16 at 10:30 am. |
