Charlotte, N.C. - The Highlanders finish day one at the Charlotte 49ers Classic Friday evening from Irwin Belk Stadium. The Highs claim two top-five finishes.

Sophomore Tiffany Evans placed second and senior Tricia Benson fourth in the hammer throw. Evans set a new school record with her toss of 175-02.

In the running events for the women Daphne Prospt placed 36th in the 5000 meter run and Shannon Brown placed 39th in the 1500 meter run.

In the field for the men, Sean McGuire placed 11th in the javelin throw with a distance of 162-07, while teammate Dan Oseth took 12th place in the long jump with a mark of 21-08.00.

On the track Joel Hanlon placed 20th in the 1500 meter run clocking a time of 4:05.85.

The meet will continue Saturday March 19th and will open up with the with the field events at 10:00 a.m.
