Evans Qualifies for NCAA Regional Championships at VT Invitationals Blacksburg, Va. -- Freshman Tiffany Evans (Dumfries, Va.) qualified for regionals and posted a school record this past weekend at Virginia Tech Invitationals. Finishing second and throwing a distance of 47'06.50" in the shot put, Evans will advance to participate in the 2004 NCAA Regional Championships in May. The distance also breaks the record that she recently set at the 2004 Big South Outdoor Championships in Charleston, S.C. For the men, redshirt Brian Richotte (Berkley, Mich.) threw the hammer a distance of 191'00.50" to place second behind Virginia Tech's Spyridon Jullien. Jeremiah Spence (Riner, Va.) and James Nixon (Chesapeake, Va.) finished third (175'05.10") and sixth (130'00.60") respectively in the event. The Highlanders compete next in Clemson, S.C. at the Orange and Purple Classic on May, 8 2004. The NCAA Regional Championships will be held May 28-29 in Gainesville, Fla. |
