Coastal Carolina Women and High Point Men’s Enter Final Day A Top 2003 Big South Conference Track and Field Championships

RADFORD, Va. -- Steady rain and cool tempetures did not dampen the competitive spirit Friday at the 2003 Big South Conference Track & Field Championship hosted by Radford University at newly completed Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium. After two days, Coastal Carolina leads the women’s competition and High Point leads the men’s. (Results)

High Point University, behind the placing of the top four in Thursday’s 10,000 meters, leads the men’s side after the second day with 49 points. Liberty University (37) and Coastal Carolina (23) are two-three. Charleston Southern University (18), UNC Asheville (17), Radford University (10) and Winthrop (2) round out the seven-team field after four events.

On the women’s side, Coastal Carolina’s 55 points tops Liberty (29) in second. UNC Asheville (21), Winthrop (18) and Charleston Southern (15) are third, fourth and fifth respectively. Radford (6) and Elon round out the field.

Friday’s rain did cause the women’s hammer throw, men’s hammer throw and women’s pole vault to be postponned until Saturday. The women’s pole vault and women’s hammer throw are scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m., while the men’s hammer throw will begin at 3:00 p.m.

The third and final day of the championship will begin tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. The awards ceremony will immediately follow the completion of the men’s 4x400 meter relay at 4:30 p.m.
