Liberty Men and Women Sweeps 2003 Big South Conference Track & Field Championship

RADFORD, Va. -- Liberty University edged Coastal Carolina in both the men’s and women's fields to capture the 2003 Big South Conference Track & Field Championship hosted by Radford University at newly completed Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium. (Complete Results)

In the women’s competition, Liberty finished with 201 points just six points better than Coastal Carolina (194) to repeat as Big South Conference champion. High Point University placed third (106.50), while Winthrop University (105) and UNC Asheville (91) were fourth and fifth respectively. Radford University (50.50), Charleston Southern University (45) and Elon University (24) rounded out the eight-team women’s field.

On the men’s side, the Flames of Liberty University used an even narrower margin to squeak past the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina University tallying 184 to 179 points in capturing the championship. High Point University (131) finished third, Radford University (101) fourth and Charleston Southern fifth (89). Winthrop University (71) and UNC Asheville (59) rounded out the seven-team men’s field.

Each of the individual winners except in the 10,000 meters, decathlon and heptathlon move on to the NCAA Regional. The following is a list of the 2003 Big South Conference Awards.
