Highlanders Set Records at 49ers Classic
Meghan McLaughlin Wins 5000

Charlotte, N.C. – Radford’s Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams competed at the 49ers Classic this past weekend at Charlotte. Both the men’s and women’s 4x400 relay teams set new school records, while Goran Nava (Castello Brianza, Italy) broke the 1500 meter record. Meghan McLaughlin (Vienna, Va.) won the 5,000 meter with a time of 17:59.19, while six other individuals placed in the top 10 for the Highlanders.

The men’s team of Rochelle Black (Virginia Beach), Andre McMillan (Newark, Del.), Shane Guynn (Christiansburg, Va.) and Tony Hash (Christiansburg, Va.) set the record with a time of 3:21.84, while the women’s team of Natasha Tyler (Columbia, S.C.), Latoya Noel (Columbia, S.C), Tiffany McLaughlin (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Maurika Quarles (Mannassas, Va.) posted a 3:57.51. Nava posted a time of 3:53.14 in the 1500, he also was seventh in the 800 meter (1:55.31).

Black also finished fifth in the high jump (2.03m), while Tyler and Noel placed seventh in the 400 meter (57.37) and 400 hurdles (1:06.08) respectively and Quarles eighth in the 400 meter (58.86). Adam Faulkner (Bland, Va.) took home sixth with a throw of 50.79 meters in the javelin.

The Highlanders continue their season next weekend when they go to Hampton for the Hampton Invitational on March 22 and 23.
