Men's Cross Country Finishes Second at Maymount Inviational, Women Place Fifth;
Nava Wins Second Straight Race and Third for the Season

Blacksburg, Va. - Radford University senior Goran Nava (Castello de Brianza, Italy) won for the second consecutive week when he topped the field at the Maymount Invitational. It was his third win in four races (2nd at Coastal Carolina) this season. He, along with freshman Mike Meehan's (Orange, Va.) fifth place finish, paced the Highlanders to a second place standing (81 points). The women, behind freshman Maria Geary's (Harrisonburg, Va.) 15th place showing, finished fifth.

Nava, on a slow and hilly course, ran a 26:37.50, 40 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Meehan turned in a time of 27:52.10, his fourth consecutive top-five finish of the season. Tim Dutton (29:14.80), David Staton (31:26.00) and Tony Zanca (31:48.20) rounded out the top five for the Highlanders.

Geary crossed the line at 20:58.50, followed by senior Tricia Benson (Salem, Va.) in 20th with a time of 21:09.80. Rounding out the top five for the Highlanders were Beth Hayward (22:06.60), Rachelle Estes (22:42.50) and Shannon Brown (22:42.50).

Host Richmond University won both the men's (31) and women's races (15).

Radford's teams will participate at George Mason next week on Oct. 4.
