Women's Tennis Blanked by James Madison

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Radford University fell to 0-2 on the season, falling 7-0 to James Madison. The Dukes swept the days matches, winning all eight. Margie Zesinger and Rebecca Vanderelst defeated Jihane Najdi and Amy Costello 8-1 in the No. 1 doubles match. Kristen Veith and Spencer Brown defeated Allison Lindsey and Caroline Downs 8-0 at the No. 2 spot, and Shell Grover and Kristen Nordstrom defeated the team of Laura Dickenson and Ashley Stevenson 8-2 to earn the Dukes the doubles point against the Highlanders.

The Dukes swept the five singles matches as well. In the closet match of the day, Najdi fell to Zesinger 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles position. Downs fell at the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-1 to Veith and Vanderelst defeated Stevenson, 6-2, 6-0 at #3. JMU’s Ashley Reyher won 6-1, 6-0 over Dickenson at No. 4 and the Dukes wrapped up the victory with Nordstrom defeating Lindsey (6-0, 6-2) and Grover defeating Costello (6-1,6-0).

The Highlanders return to the courts on Jan. 26 when they face East Tennessee State at 10 a.m. in Blacksburg.
