Highlanders Sweep Buccaneers Radford, Va. -- Radford’s tennis teams swept Charleston Southern in Big South tennis action from the Dedmon Center Courts this afternoon. The men (9-11, 1-5 BSC) picked up their first Big South victory with a 6-1 win, while the women (3-9, 2-4 BSC) won their final three singles matches to pick up a 4-3 win over the Lady Buccaneers. After dropping the doubles point, the women won four singles matches to pull out the close victory. Down 3-1, Caroline Downs, Ashley Stevenson and Laura Dickenson earned victories at No. 3, 4 and 5 respectively. Downs came back after falling in the first set, while Stevenson, with the match tied 3-3, won 6-2, 7-6 (4) to give RU the win. Amy Costello won at No. 6 to pick up the first Highlander point of the match. On the men’s side, the Highlanders picked up the point taking two of three doubles matches. They would earn the win winning five of the six singles matches, No. 5 and No. 6 by default. Brandon Johnson, Joakim Arhammar and Andre’ Cavaco earned straight set victories at No. 1, 2 and 4 respectively. The Highlanders will play their home finale and close out Conference play tomorrow, April 6, when they host Coastal Carolina at noon. Women’s Results |
