Highs Split in Dual Meet

RADFORD, Va. - The Highlanders fall shy of two victories on Saturday from the Dedmon Center Natatorium as they blow past Howard, 172.50-56.50 and fall to the Georgetown, 127.00-104.00.

On the afternoon Radford placed five victories. Junior Julie Brooks took the top spot in the 200 yard IM clocking a time of 2:11.28. Teammate Laura LeCroy would record a time of 2:18.19 to place third in the event.

RU freshman Kyndal Spradlin nabbed first in a tight 200 yard butterfly race. She finished in a time of 2:12.11 while her closest competitor, Claire Nugent from Georgetown, recorded a time of 2:13.78. RU’s Amy Wharen and Randi Faircloth finish fourth and fifth respectively in the event. Wharen also placed fifth in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:38.99.

Spradlin was also victorious in the 200 yard breaststroke posting a time of 2:28.69 and finishing a good two seconds ahead of Georgetown’s Corinne Rhodes. Laura LeCroy and Shauna Bolger would pick up third and fourth respectively in the event.

Other top-five finishes on the evening include Kristan Deckert who posted a third place in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:11.24 and a fourth place in the 500 yard freestyle. Wharen placed second and Libby Heeschen finished third in the 200 yard freestyle. Heeschen also recorded a second place in the 100 yard freestyle touching the wall at 57.31. Teammate Julie Bailey finished fifth in the event.

Taking third, fourth and fifth in the 200 yard backstroke were RU’s Jenny Biles, Kelly Wallace and Krista Menkedick.

In one meter diving Cora Legere finished second with 151.87 points and in three meter diving she finished third with points totaling 129.15.

RU will go on the road Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C. for a Northeast Conference dual meet with North Carolina A&T and Campbell.
