Highlanders Breeze Past Aggies, Radford, Va. -- Radford University evened their record at 1-1 with a 129-66 victory over North Carolina A&T in swimming and diving action from the Dedmon Center Natatorium. The Highlanders placed first and second in eight events, paced by a pair of victories by sophomore Julie Brooks (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper) and freshman Kelly Wallace (Yorktown, Va./Tabb). Brooks and Wallace also broke school records in the 200 IM and 100 back respectively. Wallace won the 1000 freestyle and 100 back with times of 11:28.81 and 1:02.38, while Brooks won the 200 IM and 100 freestyle with times of 2:15.63 and 57.31. Also earning individual victories for RU were freshman Kristan Deckert (Moseley, Va./Clover Hill) in the 200 free (2:04..03) and senior Stephanie Muehleib (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) in the 100 butterfly (1:08.55). Both Highlander relays won as well. Both Wallace and Brooks, combined with freshman Stacie Bliss (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) and junior Amy Ferry (Poquoson/Poquoson) won the 200 medley with a time of 1:57.77. The 200 freestyle team of sophomores Amy Sutton (Waynesboro, Va./Wilson Memorial), Lindsey LeCroy (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee), Krista Menkedick (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) and freshman Jessica Breece (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) edged out the RU B team by .16 seconds, finishing at 1:55.18. Freshman Randi Faircloth (Greer, S.C./Riverside) and senior Joy Bailey (Fairfield, Va./Radford) had a pair of seconds. Faircloth in the 100 back and 200 IM, while Bailey's were in the 100 fly and 50 free. Also earning second place finishes, were junior Erica Crossman (Stanton, Va./Robert E. Lee), Bliss and Menkedick in the 100, 200 and 1000 free respectively. MaryBeth Crawford (Casanova, Va./Highland) won the one meter and three meter diving events with 164.40 and 164.30 points respectively. Asha Clinkscales led the Aggies with a win in the 50 freestyle (26.69). The Highlanders return to the pool on Nov. 8 when they host the College of Charleston at 4 p.m. |
