Highlanders Fall to Youngstown State in Season Opener Youngstown, Ohio -- Radford's Swimming and Diving squad dropped their opening meet of the season to Youngstown State, 158-141 this afternoon. Five school record were broken in the process. Freshman Kristen Deckert (Modeley, Va./Clover Hill) and junior Erica Crossman (Stanton, Va./Robert E. Lee) paced the Highlanders with three and two wins respectively. Deckert won the 1000 and 500 yard freestyles and the 200 butterfly, breaking the record in the 500 free with a time of 5:29.69. Crossman took home the wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and finished third in the 1000 free. Kelly Wallace (Yorktown, Va./Tabb), Julie Brooks (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper) picked up a victory and set two school records apiece. Wallace win in the 200 backstroke (2:15.88) and her second in the 200 free (2:00.03) were school records. She also finished third in the 500 free. Brooks finished second with a school record time of 1:01.37 in the 100 yard fly and also placed second in the 200 IM. Her win in the 100 backstroke (1:02.81) was a school record as well. The Highlanders make their 2003 home debut on Friday, Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. against North Carolina A&T. |
