Highlanders Fall to Marshall and Gardner-Webb

Huntersville, N.C. -- Radford University finished seventh (242 points) at the Fall Classic hosted by Gardner-Webb University this weekend in Huntersville, N.C. During the three day competition, the Highlanders set nine school records and tied another. Davidson College won the meet with a total of 682.50 points.

Kelly Wallace (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) paced the Highlanders with three top-five finishes, two individually and one on a relay squad and set five school records. Wallace recorded RU's highest finishes, placing fourth in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 200 backstroke, with a school record times of 1:00.62 and 2:11.04 respectively. She also set school records in the 200 freestyle (1:59.98) and the 100 free (55.74 prelims).

Julie Brooks (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper) set school records in the 200 IM (2:14.08 prelims) and the 200 butterfly (2:13.80 prelims) and finished eighth in the fly "A" finals with a time of 2:16.42.

Wallace and Brooks, along with Randi Faircloth (Greer, S.C./Riverside) and Kristan Deckert (Moseley, Va./Clover Hill) broke the 800 free record (8:25.17). Deckert also posted a school record in the 1650 (12th) and 500 (prelims) freestyles with times of 18:31.70 and 5:27.86 respectively.

Erica Crossman (Stanton, Va./Robert E. Lee) tied her school record with a 13th place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.53). Also putting in strong performances were RU's 400 medley team of Brooks, Crossman, Deckert and Wallace with a fifth place finish and Deckert's 10th in the 200 fly.

Radford won't return to the pool until the New Year when they travel to Sarasota, Fla., where they will compete in a tri-meet with Georgia Southern and Tulane on Jan. 4.
