Highlanders Split Tri-Meet with Georgetown and Howard Washington, D.C. -- Radford University women's swimming and diving team split a tri-meet this weekend in Washington, D.C. The Hoyas defeated the Highlanders by a score of 148-82 but the Highs came out with a win over Howard by a score of 178-42. The Highlanders landed four first place spots and set a new record. Julie Brooks (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper) earned a first place finish in the 200 IM and the 200 fly. Brooks lowered the school record in the 200 fly with a time of 2:13.29. Kelly Wallace (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) picked up first and third in the 200 free (2:00.20) and the 200 back (2:13.78) respectively. In the dives, Kate Thomas (Richmond, Va./James River) placed an individual win for the Highlanders in the 1 mtr with 108.68 points. Kristan Deckert (Moseley, Va./Clover Hill) had a pair of second place finishes in the 1000 free and 500 free. Erica Crossman (Stanton, Va./Robert E. Lee) landed second in the 200 breast and also was part of the second place 400 medley relay with teammates Wallace, Brooks, and Bliss. Stacie Bliss (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River), earned RU's other top-three finish with a third place win in the 50 free. Joy Bailey (Fairfield, Va./Radford), Amy Ferry (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson), Randi Faircloth (Greer, S.C./Riverside), and Deckert were all members of RU's 400 free relay team that earned second. Georgetown's Katie Amaro posted two first place victories in the 1000 free and 100 free while Howard's Ariel Trippitt placed second in the 1 mtr dive with 56.70 points. Radford returns to the pool next weekend when they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. on Jan. 24. |
