Records Setting Day as Highlanders Defeat North Carolina A&T, 142-81 Radford, Va. Five school records fell as Radford’s swimming and diving team downed North Carolina A&T, 142-81 in their home opener. The Highlanders won 10 of the 13 events, improving their record to 1-2, while the Aggies fall to 0-1 in their season opener. Freshman Krista Menkedick (Vinton, Va.) was the lone dual individual winner and was a part of two school records for the Highlanders, winning the 100-yard backstroke in a record 1:07.39 and 1000 freestyle (11:41.02). She also was a member of the first place and record setting 200 medley relay team (1:58.93) which also consisted of Erica Crossman (Stanton, Va.), Raven Wray (Hopewell, Va.) and Erin Patterson (Keswick, Va.). Wray, along with Sheila Brosnan (Fairfax, Va.) and Patterson were the other record setters. Wray and Brosnan won the 100 butterfly (1:02.98) and 200 individual medley (2:25.75), while Patterson finished second in the 50 freestyle (26.47). Also posting first place finishes for RU were, Stephanie Muehleib (200 free), Joy Bailey (500 free) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Muehleib, Bailey, Brosnan and Amy Sutton (Waynesboro, Va.). In diving, senior Tina Rogers (Fairport, N.Y.) posted wins in the one and three-meter events. The Highlanders return to the pool on Friday, Nov. 8 when they host Virginia Tech and James Madison at 4 p.m. |
