Highlanders Breeze Past Howard, 142-62
Brooks and Crossman Set New Records

RADFORD, Va. -Radford's swimming and diving team breezed to a 142-62 victory over Howard University at the Dedmon Center Natatorium. Individually, the Highlanders placed first and second in six-of-nine events and seven first overall, while sweeping the relays.

The freshmen tandem of newcomer Julie Brooks and Erin Patterson posted a pair of wins each, with Brooks setting two school records in her first meet as a Highlander. Brooks broke the 200 Individual Medley and 200 Butterfly records with times of 2:17.44 and 2:19.27 respectively. Patterson placed first in the 50 (26.56) and 100 Freestyles (1:00.56). A third record was set as sophomore Erica Crossman improved on her own record in the 1000 Freestyle (11:32.18).

Also picking up wins were Sheila Brosnan in the 200 freestyle (2:07.94) and Krista Menkedick in the 200 backstroke (2:28.39). Brosnan and Menkedick were also part of the winning 400 Freestyle and 400 Medley relay teams. Brosnan, along with Patterson, Stephanie Muehleib and Amy Ferry posted a time of 3:59.44 in the Freestyle relay, while Menkedick teamed up Crossman, Raven Wray and Joy Bailey to take home the Medley relay with a time of 4:22.07.

Radford's next meet will be next at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25 at Marshall University. They will return home the next day on Jan. 26 to host Washington and Lee at noon.
