Highlanders Downed by #16 West Virginia Radford, Va. -- Radford, hosting their first nationally ranked opponent since 1992, put out a strong effort but could not overcome three early goals as they fell to 16th ranked West Virginia, 5-0, on a cool evening from Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium. Marisa Kanela netted a pair of goals and added an assist in the first 12 minutes of the match, helping the Mountaineers win their sixth straight and improve to 14-3 overall. The Highlanders dropped their second straight and fell to 8-6-1. Radford came out strong in the second half, pushing some of Right after the goal, junior Jonita Hooker (Woodbridge, Va.) almost found pay dirt, but her shot from about 25 yards was saved by Jacque Sutphin. Sutphin played the final 37:12 and made two saves, starting keeper Lana Bannerman made one save. The Mountaineers finished the game outshooting the Hi Radford returns to Big South play on Sunday when the head to Winthrop for a 2 p.m. match. |
