Highlanders Victorious Over Robert Morris RADFORD, Va. -- Radford women’s soccer scored big Sunday afternoon as junior Jonita Hooker (Woodbridge, Va.) netted the game-winning goal with just 18 seconds left in the second overtime to lift the Highlanders over Robert Morris 2-1 at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium. Radford tallied its first goal at 30:19 when senior Erin Crane (Midlothian, Va.) shot it across the box and the ball deflected off of a defender and slipped past the Colonial’s goalie, Elizabeth Moss. The Colonials rallied in the second half at 67:14 as Kathryn Kirkpatrick netted the ball from the top of the box. The winning goal by Hooker, assisted by senior Nikki Porter (Maryville, Tenn.), came as RU was making one last offensive rush in the second overtime period. The victory marked head coach Ben Sohrabi’s 99th career win. He will be looking for his 100th win on Tuesday, Sept. 7 as the Highlanders will face his Alma Mater Maryville. Radford had their opportunities at the goal, tallying 22 shots to the Colonel’s 11. Robert Morris had four corner kicks and Moss totalled seven saves, while RU took nine corner kicks and sophomore Tara Oleartchick (Woodbridge, Va.) made five saves. The Highlander’s next match up will be on the road as they face Maryville on Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. Robert Morris will play on Sept. 12 at the College of Charleston in the Charleston Tournament. |
