Porter Named to VaSID All-State First Team

Radford, Va. -- Junior Nikki Porter (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville HS) was named to the 2003 Virginia Sports Information Directors Association University Division All-State Women’s Soccer First Team. It was the second consecutive season Porter has been distinguished with this honor.

The two-time Big South Player of the Year finished the 2003 campaign with 10 goals, six assists for 26 points, leading RU in all three categories.

Virginia sophomore Kelly Hammond and coach Steve Swanson received the top awards for the 2003 VaSID All-State Women’s Soccer Team. Hammond, a midfielder, was named the state player of the year and Swanson the state coach of the year.

Sports information directors from university and college division programs throughout Virginia took part in the all-state voting. An all-state first and second team were selected in addition to the player and coach of the year.
