Boone, N.C. - Freshman Sarah Rutherford (Glen Allen, Va.) scored her first collegiate goal at 55:38, giving Radford a 1-0 road win over Appalachian State in women's soccer action from Kidd Brewer Stadium. The Highlanders improve to 3-1, while the Mountaineers fall to 0-3.

After a scoreless first half, Rutherford would score the game-winner on a direct kick. The Highlander defense did the rest, holding ASU to only three shots, all in the second half. Keeper Samantha Woods (Boones Mill, Va.) earned her second shutout of the season recording two saves. Mountaineer keeper Breland Meany was solid in net as well, stopping six shots.

The Highlanders return to action on Friday when they travel to Athens, W.Va. to take on Concord at 2 p.m.
