Second Half Surge Propels Highlanders to Win Over Concord College

Athens, W.Va. -- After a slow start, Radford scored three second half goals to down host Concord College, 3-0 in women's soccer action. Senior Jevne Reid (Columbia, Md.) netted a pair goals to lead the second half surge for the Highlanders who improve to 4-1, while Concord drops to 1-3-1.

Radford would control much of the first half but were unable to find the back of the net as they outshot CC, 7-2. Sophomore Nikki Porter (Maryville, Tenn.) put the Highlanders on the board in the 52nd minute when she put home a misplayed ball by the keeper. Reid would give RU a 2-0 lead five minutes later when she drove one over the keeper off of a corner kick by Porter.

Reid would close out the scoring in the 82nd minute, settling a loose ball off a deflection and placing it past the keeper for her fourth goal of the season. The Highlanders outshot Concord 13-6 and had the advantage in corners 5-2. Junior Samantha Woods (Boones Mill, Va.) made three saves to earn her third shutout of the season.

The Highlanders continue their season-long five-game road swing with a match at Morehead State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
