ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Senior Jevne Reid's (Columbia, Md./Howard) goal early in the game proved to be the game's only goal as Radford held off UNC Asheville in women's soccer action at Greenwood Field Saturday afternoon.
The win was the Highlanders' third straight and improved their record to 11-2-1. RU is 3-0-1 in the Big South and tied with Liberty for first place in the league. The Bulldogs fell to 6-7-0 on the season and 2-4 in league play.
Radford dominated the match early as it fired the first six shots on the goal. The first shot of game was the only goal of the match. Reid took a pass from freshman Rachel Heberer (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) and scored from five yards out at the 4:15 mark.
UNCA took charge of play early in the second half and had two good chances to score as junior Kelsea Dawson just missed on two shots in the first 10 minutes of the half. box score
The Highlanders outshot the Bulldogs, 11-7. RU goalkeeper Samantha Woods (Boones Mill, Va./Franklin County) earned her sixth shutout of the season by making two saves.
Both teams will play on Monday. UNCA will host Tusculum College Monday afternoon at 3 p.m., while the Highlanders will head to Charleston Southern for a key league match at 3 p.m.
