Highlanders Blank Towson, 2-0 Towson, Md. -- Senior Kelly Bertwell (Upper Marlboro, Md./Saint Mary's) and sophomore Nikki Porter (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville) each scored a goal to lead visiting Radford University (9-2-1) to a 2-0 non-conference win over Towson University (5-8-1) on Sunday afternoon at Towson Center field. Bertwell scored the eventual game-winner at 28:38 when she took a pass from freshman Erin Cozza (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) and Porter and blasted it straight up the middle to give the Highlanders a 1-0 advantage over the Tigers. At 63:02, Porter received a pass from senior Jevne Reid (Columbia, Md./Howard) and scored for the Highlanders to give them a two-goal cushion. Porter is Radford's and the Big South Conference's top scorer with nine goals and 21 points on the year. Reid leads the Highlanders with five assists. With the victory, the Highlanders have a 4-0-1 mark against the Tigers. Junior goalkeeper Samantha Woods (Boones Mill, Va./Franklin County), recording her fifth shut of the season, matched Towson's goalkeeper Yasmin Alter with four saves. The Tigers out shot Radford 11-8 and held the advantage in corners 12-1. Radford returns to the field tomorrow when they travel to Dover, Del. to face Delaware State at 2 p.m. |
