Highlanders' Unbeaten Streak Snapped by Old Dominion, 3-0

Radford, Va. -- Radford University's unbeaten streak was snapped at seven matches as Old Dominion blanked them, 3-0 in women's soccer action from Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium. Also, sophomore Nikki Porter's (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville) streak of scoring a goal in six-consecutive matches was ended this afternoon.

A pair of first half goals by Laura Beeman and seven saves by Kristen Bailey helped the Lady Monarchs improve to 4-8-1, while the Highlanders, backed by an 11 save performance from junior Samantha Woods (Boones Mill, Va./Franklin County), fall to 8-2-1.

Beeman would put ODU on the board at 18:59 when she took a cross across the box from Kasey Johnson and beat Woods far side for a 1-0 lead. She would strike almost 10 minutes later off an assist from Heather Vaughan at 28:47. The Lady Monarchs would control most of the play in the first half outshooting RU 9-3.

The Highlanders would come out firing in the second half, but were unable to get anything past Bailey as she made five of her seven saves in the half. After a couple of scoring opportunities went awry, Danielle Heusser gave Old Dominion a three-goal cushion at 71:38. She settled a feed from Ashley Kramer and rifled far side from about 20 yards.

Radford was outshot 19-12, while each team took four corners. The three goals are the most scored by an opponent against the Highlanders this season. Their total of five goals against in their last two games equals the amount they gave up in their first nine matches of the season.

The Highlanders take to the road again for a matchup with Towson University on Oct. 20 at 11 a.m., followed the next day by a trip to Delaware State at 2 p.m. It marks the beginning of their second stretch of five-consecutive matches on the road this season.
