Former RU Golfer Terebey To Play in U.S. Women’s Open

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. -- Former standout women's golfer Laura Terebey will play in this year's U.S. Women's Open, which begins Thursday at Cherry Hills Country Club.

Terebey, a Greensboro native, qualified for the U.S. Open by shooting a 151 at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club and Woodholme Country Club on June 13. She will tee off on hole #1 on Thursday at 12:15 local time. Terebey is paired with Christi Cano from San Antonio, Texas and Nicole Castrale of Palm Desert, Calif. The group will tee off in Friday’s second round at 7:00 am off of hole #10.

"Laura is just scratching the surface of her potential," said current RU Golf Coach Michael Grant. "This will be a great experience for her and we expect her to play well."

Terebey, who completed a brilliant four-year career at Radford in 2004, helped RU claim its first-ever women's tournament crown. She was named the Big South Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete in 2003 and 2004 and earned the Big South’s highest academic honor, the Christenberry Award following her senior season. She earned her way onto the Big South All-Academic Team in her final two years, made Dean's List every semester at Radford and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. A three-time Big South Presidential Honor Roll honoree, Terebey was also named Radford's Female Scholar-Athlete her final three years.

Former Radford teammate Stephanie George also qualified for the Sectionals, one stroke behind Terebey. George, a former Big South Player of the Year, did not make the cut for the Open.
