Highlanders in Seventh At Big South Championships DRAPER, Va.-- Radford’s women’s golf team is in seventh place after day at the 2005 PUPS Big South Conference Championship, played at The Patriot at Grand Harbor. The Highlanders shot a 336 on the first 18 holes, and trail sixth-place Charleston Southern by just five strokes. Meredith Roberts leads RU with an 82 to tie for 23rd overall. Dana Doganes trails Roberts by one stroke, shooting an 83 to tie for 26th. Senior Keri Reilly’s round one 85 is good enough for 32nd overall. Stacy Brewer rounded out the RU scoring with an 86 to place 33rd overall. Doganes also earned additional honors earlier in the day when the Big South announced she was named to the Big South All-Academic Team. Birmingham-Southern paced the eight-team field with a 291. The Panthers’ Shelley McGraw fired a two-under par 70 to lead all golfers. The tournament continues Tuesday with Radford’s tee times beginning at 7:30 am. The final round will be played Wednesday. The winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Both Radford teams will next compete at the Big South Championship at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Greenwood, S.C. The women’s tournament will be played April 11-13, while the men’s tournament is scheduled for April 18-20. |
