Women's Basketball Adds Three During Late Signing Period Radford, Va. -- Radford University’s women’s basketball head coach Jeri Porter announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the late signing period this spring. High school seniors Robin Kantin (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch HS) and Sarah Stevens (Hampton/Hampton HS), along with junior college player, Alisha Jones (Mesa, Ariz./Temple JC) have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the University. Kantin, a 5-9 guard, averaged 17 points for head coach Heather Podosek at Paint Branch High School during her senior campaign. This season, she helped the Panthers to the 3A West regional title game, earning first team all-county and all-gazette and third team all-met honors along the way. “Robin is a very athletic combination guard who will spend time at both the 1 and 2 positions. She has the ability to score off the dribble as well as knocking down the open "3". She played for four years in a very competitive program at Paint Branch High School and was a key member of the AAA State Championship team her sophomore year. She brings size and athleticism to our backcourt and is expected to fit very well into our up tempo style on both ends of the floor.” Stephens is a 6-1 forward from Hampton High School. She played a key role in helping the Crabbers making it to the AAA Final Four, where they fell to Atlee High School in the state semifinals. “Sarah will be one of the most athletic post players in the conference. At 6'1" she has the ability to score with her back to the basket by elevating over defenders and face the basket and defend smaller quicker players on the perimeter. She is a solid, versatile athlete that comes from a highly successful program in the state of Virginia, giving us depth to our core of post players.” Jones is a 6-1 center from Temple Junior College in Temple, Texas. As a sophomore, she averaged nine points and seven rebounds per contest. “Alisha is a strong, athletic post that brings the size and strength to compliment 1st team all-conference performer Amanda Neby. She has great hands and a nice soft touch around the basket, as well as having the size and strength to defend bigger post players. She will make an immediate impact on the blocks.” Kantin, Stephens and Jones join fall signees Ashley Young (5-9, G/F, Christiansburg, Va./Blacksburg HS), Meagan Hilligas (5-9, G, High Point, N.C./Southwest Guilford HS) and Chelsy Sikes (5-10, G, High Point, N.C./Southwest Guilford HS) in the 2003-04 recruiting class. |
