Highlanders Downed By Charleston Southern, 75-65 Charleston, S.C. - Radford University fell to Charleston Southern, 75-65, at the CSU Fieldhouse this evening. A 13-0 run by the Lady Buccaneers midway through the second half changed the momentum of the game, as they turned a three-point deficit into a nine-point lead they would not relinquish. CSU improved to 12-7 overall and 6-2 in the Big South Conference, while the Highlanders fell to 6-14 and 2-7 in the Big South. box score CSU’s Marea Daniels led four players in double figures with 16 points and had a game high six steals for a Buccaneers. CSU forced 23 Highlander turnovers for the game, resulting in 24 points for the Lady Buccaneers. Keena Wicker netted 12 points and a team best nine rebounds, while Katie LaRue and Lisa Crandall dropped in 11 points apiece. Amanda Neby (Plymouth, Minn.) led all scorers with 18 points, 14 in the second half, while Heather Perez (Louisville, Tenn.) chipped in with 10 first half point before an injury sidelined her for most of the second half. Sherri Rickman (Roanoke, Va.) grabbed a game best 11 boards for RU who outrebounded the Lady Bucs, 42-38. CSU used a 6-0 spurt at the end of the first half to grab a 31-25 lead going into halftime. They expanded their lead to eight points on a few occasions early in the second half, but the Highlanders used an 11-0 run to grab a 44-40 lead with 12:56 to go. The Lady Buccaneers responded with their 13-0 run and never allowed the Highlanders to get within six points the rest of the way. Radford will be off until Wed., Feb. 12 when they host Winthrop at 7 p.m. |
