Alston and Thomaston Added to Women's Basketball Staff RADFORD, Va. -- Radford University's Head Women's Basketball Coach Jeri Porter has announced the addition of Annette Alston and Corey Thomaston as assistant coaches on Monday. Both Alston and Thomaston have previously worked under Porter while she was the head coach at University of North Alabama. Alston, who will concentrate on post players and player development, joins the Highlanders after one season as an assistant coach at Samford University where she was in charge of recruiting and the defensive game plan for the Bulldogs. Previously, the 1990 graduate of Francis Marion spent three seasons as Porter's top assistant at UNA, where she also was the head cross country and track and field coach. Prior to North Alabama, Alston spent made her first stint with the Big South Conference in 1990 when she served as a volunteer assistant coach at Coastal Carolina University. A year later she was promoted to head assistant coach at Coastal and served there until 1997. She left CCU in 1997 to take a similar position at Charleston Southern University for a year. While at Francis Marion College, she was a member of the 1985-86 NAIA National Championship team and was named to the NAIA All-District team after the 1983-84 season. She had a short stint as a professional playing for BAE Rum Vek in Oslo, Norway from 1989-1990. Thomaston is also no stranger to Porter, serving as her graduate assistant the past two seasons at his alma mater University of North Alabama. He will serve as the Highlanders recruiting coordinator and work the guards. During his time on the UNA coaching staff, his primary duties included working with the guards and constructing the preseason and off-season workout and conditioning programs for the Lions. He also was responsible for the coordination and running of youth division at the Jeri Porter UNA Women's Basketball Individual Camp. The Double Springs, Alabama native graduated from UNA in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. He is currently working on the completion of his Masters of Education from UNA. |
