Hanners Signs With Radford Volleyball In Late Signing Period RADFORD, Va. -- Radford University women’s volleyball coach Michael Burch announced his first signing of the late signing period today, inking Josie Hanners to a National Letter of Intent. A senior at Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond, Va., Hanners was named both Richmond Times-Dispatch and Gatorade Player of the Year. A 5-9 setter, she was a four-year starter for the Rebels, leading Douglass Freeman to a Central Region title and the Number 2 ranking in the Commonwealth. “Not only does Josie come from one of the best teams in the region, but she also comes from a family of setters, including a brother who played at the Division I collegiate level,” said Burch. “We feel she is the top setter in the state, so we are honored she has chosen Radford University to further her education and her volleyball career. She is very well respected by coaches and players throughout the state.” Hanners totaled 681 assists as a senior, averaging 31 per match. She also averaged five digs, three aces and five blocks per match. She was a First Team All-District and All-Region selection. “Josie possesses all of the skills needed to become a great player on the college level, including an advanced knowledge of the game, a strong work ethic and a positive outlook on life,” Burch said. “Her leadership skills will make an immediate impact on our team.” She will join RU this fall as a freshman with four years of eligibility. Radford finished the 2003-04 season 4-27 overall, 3-11 in Conference play. |
