Highlanders Swept at Winthrop

Rock Hill, S.C. - Radford's volleyball team was swept by Winthrop, 3-0 this afternnon at the Winthrop Coliseum. The Highlanders lost by the scores of 22-30, 18-30 and 20-30.

Junior Tiffany Guthrie (Littleton, Colo.) led Radford with 10 kills and added seven digs. Defensively, junior Sarah Gates (Hanover, Pa.) and sophomore Elizabeth Aldredge (Richmond, Va.) led RU with 11 and 10 dig respectively.

Freshman Tori Grafeman led the way for the Eagles, posting 12 kills and a .273 hitting percentage in the match.

The duo of Lindsey Remmers and Mary Hock added eight kills a piece for Winthrop, while Hock added nine digs and Remmers had four.

Emily Heckl led the Eagles with 33 assists. Heckl also had four kills and five digs in the match.

The Eagles started off sluggishly in game one, as Radford jumped to an early 10-5 lead. Winthrop tied the game at 15, before outscoring the Lady Highlanders 15-8 as they cruised to a 30-22 game one win.

Winthrop improved to 18-10 overall and 7-3 in Big South play with the win. Radford fell to 2-22 and 1-7.

Radford will travel to High Point tomorrow to face the Panthers at 2 p.m.
