Cox Named To Big South All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Radford sophomore Divonna Cox earned a spot on the Big South Volleyball All-Academic Team the League announce on Thursday at the annual volleyball awards banquet.

Cox has killed 245 attacks this year, including a season-high 19 versus Troy State. She has tallied a career-high nine blocks twice this season and ranks second on the team in kills per game with 2.59. Cox leads the team in blocks with .93 bpg. She was a Dean's List member in the fall of 2002 and she received a Student-Athlete Academic Certificate in fall of 2002 and spring of 2003.

Liberty’s Chris Phillips and Erin McKeown were named Big South Coach of the Year and Most Valuable Player, respectively. Phillips led her team to a first-place League finish with a 13-1 Conference mark to go with a 22-10 overall record. McKeown, a senior from Glendale, Az., led the Big South with a .343 hitting percentage in 2003.

High Point’s Lindsey Pickens earned Freshman of the Year honors, while Liberty’s Kristin Colson was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Also announced at the banquet were the First and Second Team All-Conference selections, the All-Freshman Team.

The awards banquet serves as the kickoff for the 2003 Big South Conference Volleyball Championship, sponsored by Piggly Wiggly, which will be held in Birmingham on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College. The first round matches begin Friday at 12:30 a.m. Eastern Time at Bill Battle Coliseum. The Highlanders face Winthrop at 2:00 pm EST Time. Semifinals will be played Saturday afternoon beginning at 5:30 p.m. EST. The title match is slated for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. EST.
